Sherrill Brakmeier attended UofL from 1940-44 and played field hockey, softball, basketball and volleyball. Brakmeier joined the staff as a teacher and coach immediately following her graduation. She coached field hockey and sponsored the Pep Club and Cheerleaders while also coordinating the women’s intramural program which eventually evolved into the women’s intercollegiate program. Brakmeier retired after 43 years of service to UofL as both a student and a teacher. She was the first female inducted into the Hall of Fame.
