
Field Hockey Tops Appalachian State 3-0

BOONE, N.C. - The ninth-ranked University of Louisville field hockey team defeated Appalachian State 3-0 Sunday at Kidd-Brewer Field in Boone, N.C.
The Cardinals scored all three goals in the first half as Joanie Frame connected on an assist from Olivia Netzler to break open a scoreless game with 11:38 remaining in the period. Jen Kastelic recorded her first collegiate goal two minutes later to increase the lead to 2-0. Frame tipped a feed from Kim Hughes to give U of L a 3-0 lead to end the half.
Louisville goalkeeper Christy Hershey recorded two saves as she posted her second shutout of the season. Janina Perna also had a stop for the Cardinals.
U of L outshot Appalachian State 15-4 and held a 13-1 penalty corner advantage.
The Cardinals (4-3) will travel to Athens, Ohio to open Mid-American Conference play Friday at 4:00 p.m.
