More than 70 participants competed as the University of Louisville swimming and diving teams hosted the Second Annual Special Olympic Swim Meet Sunday morning.
Crawford Pool was the site for the meet as the Cardinal swimmers and divers acted as coaches, officals and lifeguards for the Special Olympians.
"Any time we get to compete at a university, especially the University of Louisville, our athletes get very excited," said Josh Cox, Program Director for Special Olympics Kentucky. "The best part of the whole thing as far as they are concerned is the actual interaction between our Olympians and the U of L swimmers. Our athletes are so encouraged when the U of L kids are coaching them, consoling them and cheering them on. It just makes for a great environment."
The Cardinals finished their season of competition the weekend before at the Conference USA meet where the men finished third and the women sixth.
"I was really humbled by the whole experience, and I am really glad my team was involved," said Arthur Albiero, U of L head coach. "If anything, just to see the joy in the competitors face was a blessing in itself."
