
Field Hockey Falls to No. 17 Ohio State 4-3 in OT

COLUMBUS, Ohio - - The fourteenth-ranked University of Louisville field hockey team fell to host, No. 17 Ohio State 4-3 in overtime Wednesday at OSU's North Turf Field. The loss snaps the Cards' five game winning streak.
The Cardinals took an early lead when junior Jen Kastelic connected on a rebound off of OSU goalkeeper Lindsay Williams midway through the first half. U of L took the 1-0 lead into halftime, outshooting Ohio State 6-4. The teams had three penalty corners apiece in the first half.
Louisville built a 2-0 lead at the 41:16 mark when junior Jessica Javelet scored on a pass from Janelle Avila.
Ohio State's Lucy Clayton delivered the first of her three goals on a penalty corner with assists from Saskia Mueller and Yesenia Luces to make it a 2-1 game at the 46:54 mark.
The Cardinals pulled ahead 3-1 when senior Rachel Overton deflected senior April White's penalty corner shot.
Two minutes later, Clayton notched her second goal of the game to cut the lead to 3-2. With under 10 minutes remaining in regulation, Luces connected on a penalty corner rebound to tie the game at 3-3, sending the teams into overtime.
Clayton completed her hat trick connecting on a pass from Leticia Fragapane 5:46 into the OT period to give the Buckeyes the 4-3 win.
Louisville sophomore goalkeeper Marie-Claire Heller had six saves in the loss. OSU's Williams collected four saves to get the win. Ohio State outshot Louisville 16-11 and held a 7-4 advantage in penalty corners. The Buckeyes improve to 4-2 on the season.
"We played an outstanding game today," said Louisville head coach Pam Bustin. "Playing Ohio State is always a battle - they are a very strong team. We made some mistakes, but we also had chances to win, including one shot in overtime which just went wide. We will regroup and prepare for the weekend."
U of L (5-2) will travel to Evanston, Ill, to play former Mid-American Conference foe Ball State Saturday, Sept. 17 at 1 p.m. The Cards will then face host Northwestern Sunday at noon.
