FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Junior Seidre Forde matched the best individual finish by a Louisville woman with a 10th-place finish in the triple jump to lead the Cardinals' track and field team on the final day of competition at the 2008 NCAA Indoor Championships at the Randal Tyson Track Center.
Forde, a native of Green's St. George, Barbados, earned a school record leap of 43 feet, 5.25 inches to finish 10th in the field of 16. She became the first Cardinal woman to advance to the finals of an event at the NCAA Indoor Championships and the school record leap edged her previous school record mark of 43-04.25 set earlier this season. Her 10th-place performance matches the finish of former Cardinal Emily Turland in the weight throw at last year's indoor championships.
Also competing on Saturday was the Cards' throwing duo of Jere' Summers and ZeNai Savage, who finished 12th and 13th respectively in the women's shot put. Summers, a transfer from Cal State Northridge and a native of Oakland, Calif., had a throw 52 feet, 9.25 inches to finish 12th in the field of 17, while Savage, a senior captain from Indianapolis, Ind., was 13th overall with a mark of 52-01.75.
On Friday at the NCAA Indoor Championships, Summers finished 13th overall in the women's weight throw with a mark of 63-08.75, while junior Rudon Bastian led the Louisville men with a 10th-place finish in the long jump with a leap of 24-11.75.
The NCAA Championships conclude the 2008 indoor season for the Cards. U of L will open the outdoor season on March 22 at the Austin Peay Spring Fling in Clarksville, Tenn.
