
Women's Basketball Ends 2009 with a 91-62 Win Over IPFW

Louisville, Ky. - The University of Louisville women's basketball team defeated IPFW 91-62 in Freedom Hall on Tuesday evening to improve to 8-5 on the season. The Cardinals had three players score in double figures, led by Keshia Hines with a season-high 19 points and eight rebounds. Also scoring in double figures were Monique Reid with 18 points and 13 rebounds, for her fifth double-double of the season. While Shelby Harper with a career-high 12 points, five rebounds and five assists. The Mastodons also had three players in double figures led by Stephanie Rosado and Chelsey Jackson with 11 points apiece.
The Cardinals came out with defensive intensity to start out the game causing a turnover on the Mastodons first two possessions. IPFW finally got on the board with a 3-pointer from Courtney Reed at the 17:30 mark, but then Louisville went on a 7-0 run to take a 9-3 lead at the 14:50 mark off a fast break layup from Hines.
Louisville faced its biggest deficit of the game when it trailed 19-16 at the 9:37 mark off a layup from Jackson, but the Cardinals used another 7-0 run to go back out to a 23-19 lead off a three point play from Gwen Rucker at the 8:38 mark.
The Cardinals finished out the half strong jumping out to their biggest lead of the half at the 1:16 mark when Rachel Story's layup made it a 46-30 game. Louisville went into the locker room leading IPFW 48-35.
In the first half Louisville shot 44.7 percent from the field, while IPFW shot 39.4 percent. The Cardinals held a substantial rebounding margin, outrebounding the Mastodons 30-18.
Louisville started out the second half the same as the first half, causing two turnovers in the first two possessions. The Mastodons hit a 3-pointer to cut the lead to 50-38, which ended up being the closest IPFW would get for the rest of the game. The Cardinals came back down on the next possession to score on a layup from Hines.
Midway through the second half, the Cardinals went on a 7-0 run to break open the game for good off an offensive rebound and put-back by Ashley Rainey to extend the lead to 76-55 with 7:26 remaining in the game.
Louisville used aggressive defense to finish out the game holding the Mastodons without a field goal in the final 3:46 of the game. The Cardinals' largest lead of the game came with 0:14 remaining when Rainey lofted a pass into Chauntise Wright for an easy lay-in to put the score at 91-62 to end the game.
Louisville finished the game shooting 50.7 percent from the floor, while IPFW shot 33.3 percent. The Cardinals also outrebounded the Mastodons 55-30 for the game, both being season-bests for Louisville. The 91 points were also the most scored by the Cardinals in a game this season.
The Cardinals will be back in action when they begin BIG EAST play at Cincinnati on Jan. 2 at 2:00 p.m
