
Cardinals Close Out Competition at ACC/Big Ten Challenge

Grace Oglesby won the 200 fly to lead the Cardinals on the final day of action.
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The University of Louisville men's and women's swimming and diving team wrapped up competition at the ACC/Big Ten Challenge with eight NCAA B cuts on Sunday morning at Purdue's Morgan J. Burke Aquatic Center. The Big Ten swept the meet, winning 251-102 on the women's side and narrowly edging the ACC 179-174 on the men's side.
Mallory Comerford picked up where she left off in the opening event of the day, splitting a 21.08 on the anchor leg of the 200 medley relay to close the gap on the Big Ten and help the ACC to a second place finish. She teamed with Elise Haan (NC State), Mariia Astashkina (27.27) and Alyssa Marsh (Duke) for a final time of 1:35.38.
Nicolas Albiero led off the ACC 'B' relay team with a 22.00, combining with Keefer Barnum (UVA), Giovanni Izzo (NC State) and Ian Ho (VT) to finish fourth with a 1:26.04. Andrej Barna posted the second-fastest split in the field (19.04) while anchoring the ACC 'C' relay team to a fifth place finish.
Sophie Cattermole kicked off Sunday's individual events with a seventh place showing in the 1000 free in a time of 9:49.77. Marcelo Acosta posted a strong swim in the men's event, touching third with a 8:56.28.
In the 200 free, Comerford picked up the top finish for the ACC, placing second with an NCAA B cut time of 1:43.58.
Alina Kendzior recorded her second NCAA B cut of the weekend in the 100 back, finishing fifth with a time of 53.64.
Astashkina earned the top finish for the ACC in her second consecutive individual swim, placing fourth in the 100 breast with an NCAA B cut time of 1:00.37. Evgenii Somov also turned in a fourth place finish in the men's event with an NCAA B cut and season-best time of 53.74.
Grace Oglesby earned first win of the day for the ACC in the 200 fly, defeating fellow All-American Vanessa Krause (Michigan) by over a full second with an NCAA B cut time of 1:54.07. Albiero also added a strong swim in the men's event, placing third with an NCAA B standard time of 1:42.96. Zach Harting took fifth with a 1:44.90, also an NCAA B cut time.
Barna closed out the final individual swim of the day for the Cardinals with a third place showing in the 50 free. He recorded an NCAA B cut time of 19.82, just two tenths back from the Big Ten's Bowen Becker who won the event.
On the 3-meter, Molly Fears scored an NCAA Zone qualifying score of 289.90 to finish eighth overall.
In the final event of the meet, Comerford anchored the ACC 400 free relay team with a 46.51 split, joining Abigail Dolan (ND), Ky-lee Perry (NC State) and Morgan Hill (UVA) to finish second in a final time of 3:12.25. The ACC men closed out the meet with a victory as Barna (42.80) combined with NC State swimmers Coleman Stewart, Jacob Molacek and Justin Ress to finish first in a time of 2:49.64.
