The freshman guard earned the accolade for his standout performance with the USA Men’s U19 National Team
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Success has followed Mikel Brown Jr. whenever he's taken the court for USA Basketball. After winning gold at the 2025 FIBA U19 Men's World Cup in Lausanne, Switzerland, Brown Jr. will add another award to cap off the year as the 2025 USA Basketball Male Athlete of the Year.

Serving as the floor general for the USA Men's U19 National Team in Lausanne, he was named to the tournament's All-Star Five with averages of 14.9 points, 6.1 assists and 2.1 rebounds in 23.2 minutes per game.

The red, white and blue recorded a flawless 7-0 record at the event, eventually defeating Germany 109-76 in the gold medal game. Brown Jr. posted 12 points and four assists in the final.

Brown Jr. racked up three games with at least 20 points at the event. The first came in a group phase matchup against France, where the guard stuffed the stat sheet with 24 points, four assists, one block and one steal.

He followed the performance with another 24-point game in the Americans' final group stage game against Cameroon. He showcased his playmaking ability throughout the game, adding eight assists.
