Thompson also served as general manager at UofL Golf Club.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Former University of Louisville golfer and UofL Golf Club general manager Denny Thompson passed away on Monday following a year-long battle with pancreatic cancer.
Thompson played golf for Louisville from 1976-1980 and enjoyed 30 years working in the golf industry. He joined the ULGC team as general manager in 2017 and in this short amount of time made a huge impact on the club.
Thompson was an incredible mentor, a friend to many, and he will be missed dearly.
In his honor, beginning next spring, the Denny Thompson Award, which was created by head coaches Mark Crabtree and Courtney Trimble, will be given annually to a men's or women's golf team member that embodies Thompson's qualities. The award recipient will be a true fan of Cardinals athletics, a diligent worker, will inspire to get the best out of others, and have a courageous, fun-loving, never-give-up attitude when faced with any situation, big or small.
His visitation will be held at the Highlands Funeral Home on Friday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. The memorial service will take place at 10 a.m. on Saturday, also at Highlands Funeral Home.
