LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The No. 13-ranked University of Louisville women's soccer team earned their 10th win of the season in dominant fashion on Friday night, defeating Syracuse 6-1 at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium.
The win extends the Cardinals' unbeaten streak to 13 consecutive matches. It also moves them to double-digit wins for the second straight year after going five years with single digit wins.
Louisville (10-1-3, 4-0-3 ACC) was firing on all cylinders in the first half after not having played a match in nearly two weeks, scoring six goals in the first 45 minutes.
The Cards came out of the gates hots, scoring almost immediately. Brooklyn Lee forced an offensive zone turnover and played a ball through to Karina Peat who ripped the back of the nets from outside of the box in the second minute to put Louisville on top 1-0.
In the 12th minute, Amelia Swinarski put a chip shot into the goal after a lengthy cross from Liz Eddy to double the lead at 2-0. Just eight minutes late in the 20th minute, Liza Suydam tacked on another goal after a failed cross was headed right to her feet at the net.
The Cardinals lead grew to 4-0 thanks to a Syracuse own goal in the 35th minute.
Between the 39th and 40th minutes, Fina Davy had the moment of the match, scoring back-to-back goals in merely 45 seconds. Davy headed in her first goal of the contest off a perfect cross from Abigail Cox, collecting her first goal of the season, before taking an errant Syracuse pass for a goal just 45 seconds later. Davy is just the third Cardinal this season to notch a multi-goal game, joining Karina Peat and Swinarski.
The Orange (4-9-2, 1-7-0 ACC)) tallied their lone goal of the match in the 53rd minute.
Brielle Baker faced just four shots on goal, making three saves on the night.
UofL outshot Syracuse 9-7 in the match and tallied seven corners to the Orange's two.
Louisville's six goals are the most in a match this season, topping the previous high of five (8/23 and 8/30). The six goals are also the most in a match since UofL defeated Western Michigan 6-2 on August 19, 2021.
Up next, the Cardinals will head out for their final road match of the regular season, taking on Virginia on October 29 at 6 p.m. ET.
