The cross-town foes open the 2026-27 slate at the KFC Yum! Center
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The No. 7 Louisville women's basketball team is set to begin the 2026-27 season on Monday when they host Bellarmine at the KFC Yum! Center on Monday, November 2nd. The Cards and Knights will kick the season off at 5 p.m. ET and will be streamed on ACC Network Extra. It is the first of a back-to-back game with the men's program as they face Chattanooga later that evening.
Head coach Jeff Walz is set to begin his 20th season at the helm of the Louisville Cardinals. He is the program's all-time winningest head coach and reached his 500th career win last season, the fourth-fastest coach to reach 500 wins all-time. He is just one of five active power conference head coaches to be at one school for 20 years or more.
The Cards were picked No. 7 in both the AP and Coaches preseason poll. It is the 17th-straight season that Louisville has been in the Top 20 in the preseason AP, the longest active streak in the ACC. The second-longest streak in the conference is just five seasons.
The Cards have had plenty of preseason honors heading into the season. Tajianna Roberts and Imari Berry were both named to the Preseason All-ACC team, one of just two schools to have multiple players on the team. Berry and Roberts were both named to the Naismith Trophy Player of the Year Watch List.
The Cardinals had one player on all five of the positional watch lists, which were announced last week. They are the only team in the country to have a player on all five positional watch lists. Zamareya Jones was on the Liberman Award Watch List, Roberts was on the Drysdale Award Watch List, Mackenly Randolph was on the Miller Award Watch List, Carys Baker was on the McClain Award Watch List and Amiya Joyner was on the Leslie Award Watch List.
