Late Homer Sinks Cards in Sunday Series Finale
April 12, 2026 | Baseball
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville baseball team gave up a late three-run homer and lost 6-4 in the series finale to Stanford on Sunday at Jim Patterson Stadium.
Louisville (20-16, 6-9 ACC) took a 4-3 lead into the ninth, trying to secure a series victory.
A leadoff walk was followed by a single to put runners on the corners with nobody out.
Stanford (16-16, 6-9) appeared to tie the game up on a double play groundball. However, an interference call was made at second base, giving the Cardinals both outs and keeping the potential tying run on third base.
Still leading 4-3, a seven-pitch walk put runners back on the corners and the next batter launched a three-run homer that would prove to be the game-winner.
Louisville gave up a pair of runs in the second inning to fall behind early on Sunday. The Cardinals responded though, scoring four unanswered to take a 4-2 lead.
Tague Davis singled home a pair to tie it up in the third, his 65th and 66th RBIs of the season. Zach Davis drove in Lucas Moore in the fourth to put the Cards in front and a balk brought home Zion Rose in the fifth.
Colton Hartman went just 1.2 innings in the start for the Cardinals, allowing two runs. Ty Starke turned in a career-long 2.2 innings of relief work without a hit allowed. Jack Brown and Peter Michael had scoreless bullpen appearances as well.
Aaron England (1-2) was hit with the loss after allowing the runs in the ninth.
