Cardinals Kick Off Competition at Mt. SAC Relays

WALNUT, Calif. – The University of Louisville track & field teams kicked off their five-meet split on Wednesday at the 66th annual Mt. SAC Relays, where a pair of Cardinals began competition in the multi events.
KJ Byrd made his return to the men's decathlon for the first time this season, closing the first day of competition in fifth place with a total of 4,124 points.
Over the course of the first five events, the sophomore clocked a 100m time of 10.94, leapt to a mark of 7.24m (23-9), posted an outdoor personal record of 13.12m (43-0.5) in the shot put, cleared 2.08m (6-9.75) in the high jump, and raced to a 400m time of 49.75.
Lucy Fellows also competed in the women's heptathlon on Wednesday afternoon, accruing 3,249 points to finish the first day of competition in 12th place.
Fellows began her day with a time of 14.44 in the 100m hurdles before following it up with marks of 1.62m (5-3.75) in the high jump, 12.15m (39-10.5) in the shot put, and a 200m time of 24.83.
Competition at Mt. SAC will resume tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 p.m. ET with the continuation of the women's heptathlon, while the men's decathlon will also continue tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. ET.
The Cardinals will also begin competition tomorrow at both the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, Calif. and the Pacific Coast Invitational in Long Beach, Calif. Action in Azusa will begin with the first section of the women's 10000m at 10:00 a.m. ET, while the first section of the pole vault will kick off the day in Long Beach at 2:35 p.m. ET.
