Prep: Spencer joins Louisville after swimming for Michigan Lakeshore Aquatics and coach Jim Whitehead, for which he qualified for both the Olympic and World Championship trials. For Michigan Lake Shore Aquatics, Carl grabbed the 2016 200 fly Winter Junior National Championship. Under Coach Steven Bowyer at West Ottawa HS, he lettered four times and won four state championships in the 500 free (2017), 200 free (2016-17) and the 100 fly (2016), in which he set the Division 1 state record time. He holds best times of 47.61 in the 100 fly, 1:44.10 in the 200 fly and a 1:36.31 in the 200 free. In addition to swimming, he earned eight letters in water polo, receiving All-Conference honors in 2015 and 2016, and competed in track as a discus thrower.
