Senior Nicolas Rouanet caps 5-0 run with SIC Division II singles championship
The University of Louisville's Nicolas Rouanet defeated Stetson's Malik Bhatnagar 6-4, 6-2 in the Southern Intercollegiate Championship Division II singles finals Monday morning at the University of Georgia. Â
Â
"What a great way for Nico to start off his senior year," said UofL assistant coach Jakob Gustafsson. "He didn't drop a set all tournament and looked really strong all the way through. Today he had to deal with fast indoor courts, but adjusted really well. I couldn't be happier for him."
Â
The senior from Gujan Mestres, France capped a 5-0 run in the fall-opening tournament which included straight-set wins over players from East Tennessee, Kennesaw State, Georgia Gwinnett and teammate Ciro Lampasas prior to Monday's 6-4, 6-2 victory over Stetson's Bhatnagar.
Â
Rouanet finished his junior campaign at Louisville with a 27-17 overall singles record and a 16-12 mark in dual matches while splitting time between Nos. 1, 2 and 3.
Â
UofL will resume the fall season next weekend when selected players travel to Durham, N.C. for the Duke Invitational.
