Louisville’s lone boat finished less than a minute off winner, Yale
BOSTON, Mass. – University of Louisville rowing took to the Charles River on Saturday for its largest test of the fall against 40 other universities and club programs, racing to an eighth-place finish in the Women's Club Eights with a time of 17:30.1.
"It was great to see an aggressive and composed return to a challenging race course here in Boston today after a seven-year absence," said associate head coach Ed Oxlade. "We represented ourselves, and our teammates back at home well, with most of our crew experiencing the scale and spectacle of Head of the Charles for the first time. I am encouraged and excited about the team's potential, as the attitude this fall has been first class."
Led by coxswain Zoe Desserich, the Cardinals' crew of Anna Hoskova, Addie Clark, Ellie Fazio, Sara Sedovsek, Jana Berelsmann, Haley Kunz, Clara Van Dyk and Angels Ventura posted top-10 times at each of the race's three checkpoints before the finish line.
Their final time was less than a minute behind winner Yale, which finished in 16:50.6. Of the ACC crews competing in Boston, the Cardinals were the top finisher and posted the sixth-fastest time among all NCAA competitors.
"I think we saw the fruits of our positive energy on the water today," Oxlade added. "This is an exciting young group to work with, and they are learning all the time. The competitiveness and team spirit are rising, and will spur us to a great season ahead. There is plenty more to come from this year's Cardinals, and we look forward to helping them find it."
