Louisville Completes First Day of Lake Wheeler Invitational

Louisville’s Varsity 4 boat finished second in its first-round race

RALEIGH, N.C. – University of Louisville rowing completed the first day of the Lake Wheeler Invitational on Friday afternoon.

The Invitational is set up in three rounds with team scoring based off top three finishes in each event, each round. The top three finishes in the V8, 2V8, 3V8, V4 and 2V4 are each assigned a different point total. After the first two rounds, Louisville has earned 17 points to tie for eighth out of the 20 programs.

Louisville's Varsity 4 squad was the highlight of the day with a second-place finish in its first-round heat. The crew of coxswain Zoe Desserich, Angels Ventura Rodriguez, Wilkey Smith, Addie Clark and Keira Krebs logged a time in 7:24.550, finishing only behind No. 13 Duke and finishing ahead of No. 25 Oklahoma who came in third.

The Cardinals' Varsity 8, 2V8 and 3V8 all finished third in the first-round races, turning in times of 6:38.340, 6:46.190 and 6:54.780, respectively. The Second Varsity 4 was fourth in its morning race.

Turning to the afternoon, all of Louisville's boats finished fourth in their races. The Varsity 8 boat improved by half a second to turn in a 6:37.900.

Louisville will finish out the regatta on Saturday morning with the third and final round of racing. The Cardinals will take the course again at 9:10 a.m. (3V8), 9:40 (2V4); 10:10 (V4); 10:40 (2V8) and 11:10 (V8).
