No. 12/8 Cards Sweep Xavier in Home Opener

The Louisville women set two individual pool records along with one relay pool record
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The No. 12/8-ranked University of Louisville men's and women's swim & dive teams swept Xavier on Friday afternoon at Ralph Wright Natatorium. The Cardinal men won 189.50-70.50, while the UofL women came out on top 188-69.
The Louisville women put on a show, setting two individual pool records along with one relay pool record. In the first individual event of the meet, Thilda Hall and Leticia Fassina Romao each went under Liberty Williams' previous pool record of 9:40.26 in the women's 1000-yard freestyle set back in 2022. Hall won the race with a 9:34.26, but Romao followed closely with a 9:35.12 to finish second. Anastasia Gorbenko also broke another one of Liberty Williams' pool records, this time in the women's 200-yard backstroke, where Gorbenko's 1:52.76 beat Williams' 1:53.22 set back in 2023.
In the second to last event of the afternoon, Caroline Larsen (47.13 split), Julia Ogren (48.90 split), Julie Mishler (48.50 split) and Angelina Solari (48.31 split) set the third pool record of the meet in the women's 400-yard freestyle relay with a 3:12.84. The time beats the previous record of 3:14.23 set by Lainey Visscher, Mallory Comerford, Abigail Houck and Casey Fanz back in 2016.
On the men's side, Gregg Enoch led the charge with two individual victories. The junior started out his night with a win in the men's 200-yard butterfly, turning in a 1:45.69. Enoch capped his performance with a first-place finish in the men's 200-yard IM, notching a 1:48.79.
