25 – The Cardinals already have 25 rushing touchdowns this season, matching their total from one year ago.
INSIDE THE SERIES
Louisville and Stanford have met one time previously, with the Cardinal winning 38-35 in Palo Alto two years ago.
The Cardinals led 35-21 in the fourth quarter of the previous meeting before Stanford scored 17 points over the final seven minutes to win on a game-winning field goal as time expired.
LOUISVILLE-STANFORD CONNECTIONS
Stanford Director of Offense Terry Heffernan began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Louisville during the 2004 season.
ABOUT THE CARDINAL
Stanford improved to 4-4 on the season and 2-3 in ACC play with a 31-28 win over NC State last Friday night in Palo Alto.
It has been a night and day difference for the Cardinal at home versus on the road. Stanford is 4-1 in Palo Alto, including ACC wins over NC State and Georgia Tech. However, the Cardinal are 0-3 away from home and have been outscored 150-17.
The Cardinal rank last in the ACC in both scoring offense and scoring defense.
Former Michigan quarterback Davis Warren has been one of the better passers in the country this season. He ranks 20th nationally in passing yards and 25th in the FBS in completions per game.
Junior running back Micah Ford ranks second in the ACC in rushing yards and fourth in rushing touchdowns. He has rushed for 329 yards over the last two games, both Stanford wins.
CARDINALS FLEXING MUSCLES ON THE GROUND
The Louisville offense has been one of the best in the country this season, ranking eighth nationally in total offense and 11th in scoring offense. One of the ways the Cards are doing it is by gashing the opposition on the ground.
Louisville is fourth in the FBS averaging 5.9 yards per carry and is third with 25 rushing touchdowns, which already matches its 2025 total through just seven games. Louisville's current 215.0 yards per game average would be its highest total on the ground since 2017, Lamar Jackson's final season.
The Cardinals have 20 carries this season that have gone for at least 20 yards and are one of only two teams nationally to have multiple rushes of 80 yards or more.
KIENHOLZ CONTINUES TO BE SPECIAL WITH RUNNING ABILITY
Lincoln Kienholz's athletic ability was highly discussed before he played his first game for the Cardinals, and the senior quarterback has proven all the talk to be true.
Through seven games, Kienholz has rushed for 251 yards and 10 touchdowns. The only quarterbacks to rush for more touchdowns in a single season at Louisville are Lamar Jackson and Malik Cunningham.
Kienholz put his top speed on display Oct. 17 at Syracuse, breaking loose for an 82-yard rushing touchdown, the longest by a quarterback in school history.
THE MOST EXPLOSIVE OFFENSE IN AMERICA
Louisville has been the most explosive offense in the country through the first seven games of the season. The Cardinals have already racked up 52 plays from scrimmage of 20 yards or more. Louisville leads the country in plays from scrimmage of 40+, 50+ and 60+ yards, and is second in 20+ and 30+ yards only behind West Virginia, which has played one more game.
The Cardinals have already scored 11 touchdowns of 50 yards or more as well, with at least one in all seven games. Those 11 touchdowns have been scored by six different players – I. Brown, K. Brown, Kienholz, McCoy, Richardson and Skinner. Louisville is the only FBS school with 11 touchdowns of 50 or more.
BEASLEY TURNING INTO A BALLHAWK IN THE SECONDARY
Kaleb Beasley played two seasons at Tennessee before transferring to Louisville for his junior season. In those two years, the Nashville native played in 26 games but never recorded an interception.
He finally broke through in the interception department with a pair against SMU in week three, earning him the Walter Camp Award National Defensive Player of the Week honors. Beasley has since added one in consecutive games against NC State, Florida State and Syracuse.
Beasley has five of Louisville's seven interceptions on the season and is tied for the national lead through eight weeks. He is the first Louisville player with five interceptions in a season since Jaire Alexander in 2016.
