Easton Lotus Leads Cards to 8-7 Walk-Off Win Against Indiana
April 16, 2026 | Softball
The Cards picked up their 35th win of the season to move to 35-9 before diving back into ACC play this weekend. Madi Reeves (3-0) picked up the win in the circle after tossing 3.0 innings in relief, striking out five batters while allowing just two runs. Easton Lotus finished the night 2-for-6 and drove in the two winning runs with a single in the bottom of the 10th. Taylor Monroe led the offense with a 3-for-4 outing, scoring two runs, driving in three and taking one free pass. Ava Venturelli and Jordan Williams each took home the other two RBIs to round out the night for UofL.
Indiana struck in the top of the first after a sacrifice fly allowed a runner to cross home. Both pitchers worked to keep the next three innings quiet before the Hoosiers added on in the top of the fourth with another sacrifice fly.
Louisville got on the board after a bloop single by Monroe scored Madison Pickens from second base, but IU still led 2-1. Brooke Gray and Alyssa Zabala combined for a 1-2-3 top of the fifth, and Zabala sat down three of four batters faced in the sixth.
Camryn Lookadoo dropped in a bunt single to begin the home half of the sixth, and a sacrifice bunt from Pickens moved Lookadoo into scoring position. Williams singled in Lookadoo and moved to second on a throw until a wild pitch allowed her to advance to third. Venturelli knocked a single into center field to score Williams and give the Cards their first lead of the night.
A solo home run from Indiana tied the game at three in the top of the seventh, and UofL could not capitalize on a leadoff walk in the bottom frame, forcing the matchup to extra innings.
Two singles in the top of the eighth gave the Hoosiers a 5-3 lead, but Williams and Monroe struck with back-to-back doubles to add a run for Louisville. Monroe advanced to third after a groundout, and Chelsea Mack reached on an error that let Monroe come home to tie the game again.
After a scoreless ninth that featured a three up, three down top frame from Reeves, IU looked to have a big momentum swing heading to the 10th. With the ghost runner on second base, a passed ball followed by a single brought in two Indiana runners to lead 7-5.
Pickens was placed as the runner on second to start the home 10th, and Williams grounded out to move her over to third. Monroe singled through the middle and plated Pickens as the Cards got back within one. Riley Janda and Mack drew back-to-back walks to load the bases with two outs, and with a 3-2 count, Lotus laced her walk-off single down the left field line to end the game.
Louisville will be back in action for a home series with Pittsburgh from April 17-19 at Ulmer Stadium. Games are set for 6 p.m., 1 p.m. and 4 p.m., with the first two games being streamed on ACCNX and the Sunday matchup airing on ACC Network.
