Reeves' Complete-Game Outing Leads Cards to 5-1 Win Over Syracuse
April 25, 2026 | Softball
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The No. 25-ranked University of Louisville softball team (40-10, 15-5 ACC) defeated Syracuse (18-22, 4-14 ACC) 5-1 on Saturday afternoon at Ulmer Stadium for its 40th win of the year. This win marks the first 40-win season for the Cards since 2013.
Madi Reeves (4-1) picked up her second complete game of the season and tossed a season-high six strikeouts in the win. Reeves allowed six hits and just one unearned run on the day. Madison Pickens and Ava Venturelli both led the way with two RBIs apiece, while Pickens, Easton Lotus, Bri Despines and Addy O'Dell each logged stolen bases.
After Reeves made quick work of the top of the first, Chelsea Mack and Lotus started the bottom half of the inning with back-to-back singles. A flyout let Mack take third before Lotus swiped second, and a sacrifice fly from Lookadoo sent in Mack for the first run of the day. Pickens followed that up with an RBI single that scored Lotus and gave UofL a 2-0 lead.
Both pitchers continued to battle, with neither facing more than five batters through the second, third, fourth and fifth innings. Syracuse grabbed its lone run of the day in the top of the sixth after a single sent in a runner from second.
Despines was hit by a pitch to start the home frame and subsequently stole second as Lookadoo walked to join her. Pickens singled down the left field line to send home Despines, and smart baserunning from Lookadoo had her moving to third and Pickens to second. SU pitcher Madison Knight struck out the next two batters, but Venturelli singled to the centerfield wall to bring in both runners.
The series will finish out tomorrow with the Orange and the Cards squaring off at noon. Senior Day festivities will take place before the game, and the game will be streamed on ACCNX.
