Three different Cards finished with double-digit kills, including 14 from both Chloe Chicoine and Chloe Meester.
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The No. 3-ranked University of Louisville volleyball team extended their winning streak to 10 matches with a four-set road victory over Miami (25-18, 25-15, 21-25, 25-12) on Sunday afternoon.
The Cardinals (20-2, 10-0 ACC) remain atop the ACC standings as the last remaining undefeated team, having won 30 of 32 sets in their first 10 matches of ACC play.
"Really pleased to get a win on the road in the ACC," said Dan & Maria Durbin Head Coach Dan Meske. "Any road win is a big win, but Miami in particular plays really tough at home. Sold-out crowd, the environment there was great, really fun environment for volleyball. We knew they had two topspin servers that would give us a lot of pressure and I thought our passers handled those two servers well. [Nayelis Cabello] distributed the ball great – we had three attackers in double-digit kills which is always the best version of us, and then Brooke Bultema continues to really stress teams with the tempo we're running her at. Our block continues to show up and put pressure on other teams to try and do things they're not so comfortable with offensively. At the end of the day, just a really poised win for our group on the road. We're really pleased to head out of Florida with two wins."
Louisville finished the match with 50 kills on a .327 hitting percentage, while also posting 47 digs, nine blocks and eight aces. The Cards kept Miami (9-10, 7-3 ACC) in check, holding their explosive offense to 42 kills on .111 hitting.
Three different Cardinals finished the match with both double-digit kills and hitting percentages over .300, as outside hitters Chloe Chicoine and Chloe Meester notched 14 apiece and opposite Kalyssa Blackshear recorded 12. Chicoine also recorded 10 digs on the afternoon, securing her eighth double-double of the year.
Setter Nayelis Cabello was the catalyst for the balanced Louisville attack, tallying 42 assists, 10 digs, four blocks and two kills on her way to her team-leading 13th double-double of the season.
On the defensive end, libero Payton Petersen led the team with 16 digs while middle blocker Brooke Bultema notched five blocks to go with eight kills on .636 hitting to continue her red-hot play in the month of October.
SET 1
The first set started as a game of runs, as both teams answered the other's scoring runs immediately to keep the set knotted up early. With the score tied at 11, the Cards put on a 4-1 burst that included three straight kills from Meester to take a 15-12 lead into the media timeout. After Miami scored first out of the break, a Blackshear kill and back-to-back Meester aces extended the lead to 18-13. The two teams traded blows before three straight points from the Cards brought them to set point. Meester's fifth kill of the set secured the win at 25-18 as Louisville held the Canes to .062 hitting in the first.
