LOUISVILLE, Ky. — No. 12 Louisville women's soccer had its senior day celebration spoiled by Boston College on Sunday afternoon, falling 2-1 at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium.
The loss is the Cardinals' second in a row after going unbeaten in 13 consecutive matches.
Boston College (10-4-2, 3-4-2 ACC) got on the board first, and in a hurry, thanks to Emily Mara who found the back of the net in just the third minute.
After the remaining 42 minutes went by without another goal, Louisville (10-3-3, 4-2-3 ACC) went into the locker room down 1-0.
Out of the break, Boston College added another goal after Nico Kiorpes converted a penalty kick in the 52nd minute to double the lead to 2-0.
With time winding down, UofL earned a penalty kick of its own, the first of the season, in the 87th minute. Betsy Huckaby stepped to the line and delivered a terrific shot that found the back of the net for her first goal of the season.
Despite a few more chances in the final minutes of the match, Louisville was unable to score the equalizer, falling 2-1.
The Cards tallied more shots (17-9) and corner kicks (10-8) than Boston College in the match.
Up next, Louisville will close it the regular season with one final match at home, hosting North Carolina at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium on Thursday, November 5.
