Louisville Set for Rematch with Florida State in ACC Championship

The Cards and Seminoles met in the second round of the tournament last year
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The No. 12-seeded University of Louisville men's tennis team is set to begin play in the Atlantic Coast Conference Championship with a 10 a.m. match against No. 13 Florida State on April 15 at Cary Tennis Park. The winner of the matchup will play No. 5 NC State in the second round.Â
Louisville ended the regular season with a 17-12 record overall and a 5-8 showing in the ACC, its best conference finish since the 2023 season. Its five wins came against No. 58 Miami, No. 45 Florida State, No. 45 Georgia Tech, Boston College and Virginia Tech.Â
In the final ranking before the postseason, the Cards landed at No. 62 in the ITA team poll. Transfers Matei Onofrei and Walid Ahouda were huge additions to the lineup and had the highest singles win totals in the spring season with 13. Onofrei is the first Louisville player to reach 20 overall wins since Etienne Donnet and Fabien Salle reached the mark in the 2022-23 season.Â
Louisville and Florida State met in the regular season on March 1 when the Cards came out victorious with a 4-2 win. Ahouda clinched the match in a three-set thriller on the top court 6-4, 4-6, 7-5.Â
The two teams also met in the second round of last year's ACC Championship, where Florida State edged Louisville with a 4-3 victory. Despite the loss, Senior Natan Rodrigues upset No. 15 Corey Craig on court one.Â
