Charles "Chuck" Asher lettered four times for head coach Frank Camp's football teams from 1948-51. He played offensive guard during the 1948 and 1949 seasons, but his best position was at defensive nose-guard, where he received All-America honors in 1950.
"Chuck was a great all-around player at UofL," said former assistant coach Clark Wood.
Asher played for the 1950 team that tied Miami, which was one of the biggest upsets of the era. Asher was the anchor of the defensive line and the Cardinals' team captain in 1951. He served as a high school athletic director near Dayton, Ohio, after graduation.
