Kalyssa Blackshear set a career high with 21 kills on a .500 hitting percentage.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The No. 3-ranked University of Louisville volleyball team took down Georgia Tech in three sets (25-19, 25-21, 27-25) on Sunday afternoon at the KFC Yum! Center to remain undefeated in conference play.
Louisville (22-2, 12-0 ACC) put on a show offensively, totaling 49 kills on a .333 hitting percentage, 36 of which came from opposite Kalyssa Blackshear and outside hitter Chloe Chicoine. Defensively, the Cards tallied 41 digs and stuffed 10 blocks while holding Georgia Tech (14-8, 6-5 ACC) to .157 hitting.
"It was a great team win," said Dan & Maria Durbin Head Coach Dan Meske. "[Nayelis Cabello] distributed really well – I thought our offense was really clicking – and Kalyssa [Blackshear] was on fire. It just felt like she couldn't miss, and we needed every bit of it because Georgia Tech is a team that puts a lot of pressure on you. They're very offensive, and they play really hard, so we had to match that. A big credit to everybody who came out. The official attendance was 6,873 and we talked before the match, but we want 6,873 people saying, 'Man, I've got to make sure I'm back here [at the KFC Yum! Center] when we play against SMU.'"
Blackshear set a career high with 21 kills, nine of which came in the second set, to lead the charge for Louisville's offense. The stellar performance marks her second match this season surpassing the 20-kill mark. The sophomore also posted an efficient .500 hitting percentage, her 10th match with at least a .400 clip this year.
Chicoine also put together a solid match, notching 15 kills on an excellent .500 hitting percentage with five digs and three blocks. The senior has now recorded double-digit kills in 21 of 24 matches this season and hit at least .400 in eight matches.
Setter Nayelis Cabello orchestrated the Louisville attack with 43 assists, adding five digs and three blocks. Libero Payton Petersen led Louisville's defense with 12 digs while middle blocker Brooke Bultema stuffed five blocks to help lock down the Georgia Tech offense.

The teams traded the first six points of the match with the score tied at 3 early in the set. The Cards scored a pair, but Georgia Tech answered with a 6-2 run to gain the 9-7 lead. Back-to-back kills by Blackshear sparked a 9-3 run that included three kills and two blocks by Chicoine to earn UofL the 16-12 edge. The Yellow Jackets rattled off three straight to come within one at 16-15, but the Cardinals shot back with five straight to extend their advantage to 21-15. Georgia Tech fought back but a tandem block by Cabello and Addison Makun followed by a Blackshear kill secured UofL the 25-19 win. The Cardinals' offense dominated in the second with a .576 hitting percentage on 19 kills, nine of which came from Blackshear.
SET 3
