LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The No. 24 Louisville Cardinals women's soccer team battled the No. 2 North Carolina Tar Heels on Thursday night at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium, ultimately falling short 3-2 in a hard-fought match.

The loss is the Cardinals' third consecutive loss after going a program-record 13 matches without a loss.

North Carolina (15-2-0, 8-1-0 ACC) got the scoring started with a goal off the foot of Hope Munson in the 36th minute.

Shortly after halftime, Louisville found its equalizer in the 59th minute when Grace Maddux headed home a corner kick for her second goal of the season. Betsy Huckaby was credited with an assist on the play.

The Tar Heels broke the tie just a couple of minutes later in the 63rd minute, when Hope Munson found the back of the net for her second goal of the night.

In the 72nd minute, Louisville (10-4-3, 4-3-3 ACC) leveled the match at two after McKalie Ball blocked a clearance attempt by the North Carolina goalkeeper, sending the ball trickling across the line for her third goal of the season.

North Carolina struck back and took the lead for good in the 79th minute, as Hope Munson buried her third goal of the night.

Despite the loss, Brielle Baker had a nice night in goal, making five saves, including a key stop early in the match on a North Carolina penalty kick.

Going forward, the Cardinals turn their attention to the postseason, where they will look to carry the success they enjoyed throughout the majority of the season.
