Cards win three of four relays
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The No.12/7 University of Louisville men's and women's swimming and diving team swept both No. 6/4 Tennessee and No. 20/20 Auburn Thursday afternoon Allan Jones Aquatic Center.Â
The men beat Auburn 184-99 and Tennessee 145.5-136.5, and the women beat Auburn 180-119.5 and Tennessee 154-144.
The Cardinal women had dominant performances from their returners, including senior sprinter Ella Welch who had a top three finish in all four of her events including a victory in the 200-medley relay, 100 fly, and 400 free relay. Senior sprinter Julia Dennis also placed top three in all four of her events including the title in the 200-medley relay, 50 free, and 400 free relay. For the Cardinal men, sophomore Filip Kosinski won both the 100 and 200 back, while Tommy Bried took first in the 1000 free.Â
UofL will return home to Ralph Wright Natatorium on Nov. 6 to host Kentucky starting at 4 p.m. ET. Â

The Cardinals opened the meet with a sweep of the opening relays. The women won in 1:34.21 put up by Julie Mishler (24.41), Caroline Larsen (26.37), Ella Welch (22.50) and a freestyle anchor by Julia Dennis (20.93). The Louisville men followed suit with the winning time of 1:23.58 from the foursome of Rian Graham (21.51), Finnley Conklin (23.47), Aiden Musso (20.15) and an anchor of 18.45 from Nikita Sheremet.

Louisville's Daria Golovaty posted the winning time of 9:46.45 in the 1000 free and freshman Maya Bezanson was fifth in 10:00.01. The Cardinal men took first, second and fourth in the 1000 freestyle led by the winning time of 9:03.74 from Tommy Bried with freshman Max Hatcher right on his heels, touching second in 9:05.70. Kayden Lancaster was fourth with a 9:15.41.

Summer Cardwell touched second in the 200 freestyle, boarding a 1:44.94 with her teammate Xeniya Ignatova turning in the seventh place time of 1:47.30 just out-touching UofL's Amelia Bodenstab, who was eighth in the 16-swimmer field with a 1:47.88. Tennessee's Ella Jansen won the event in 1:43.33. Â Cardinal Guy Brooks was edged in the men's 200 free, touching second in 1:32.88 just behind Auburns Daniel Krichevsky's 1:32.72. Louisville veteran Matias Santiso was sixth (1:35.63) and freshman Oscar Isberg was seventh in 1:36.07.

Louisville had two in the top four finishers in the women's 100 back, led by freshman Julie Mishler's second place finish of 52.16. Camille Murray touched fourth with a time of 52.78. Auburn's Lora Komoroczy put up the winning time of 51.99. The men had three in the top five with Filip Kosinski winning in 46.23 just edging Jackson Millard's second place time of 46.53. Rian Graham was fifth, turning in a 47.22.

In the women's 100 breaststroke, Mia Cheatwood was second with a 59.71 just ahead of Ella Welch's third-place time of 59.94. Â Freshman Anna Inagaki was seventh with a time of 1:01.09. Tennessee's Emelie Fast put up the winning time of 59.54. Â For the men in the 100 breast, Cardinal freshman Finnley Conklin was the top UofL competitor, touching third in 53.16. Jake Eccleston was fourth (53.26) and Grant Gooding was eighth with a time of 54.94. Auburn's Uros Zivanovic won the event with a time of 53.01.

Freshman Sophia Rodriguez was the top Cardinal finisher in the 200 butterfly, touching in 2:01.84, good for fourth place. Kaitlyn Sallows was fifth with a time of 2:02.33. Tennessee's Emily Brown pulled away from the field, posting a 1:55.33. Â The UofL men went 2, 3, 4 and 6 in the men's 200 fly, led by Gregg Enoch's 1:44.56 followed by Aidan Paro (1:44.72), Thomas Powers-Hammond (1:44.88) and Tommy Bried (1:45.72). Tennessee's Martin Espernberger won the event with a 1:42.01. Â

Julia Dennis was the fastest swimmer in the 50 free, giving the Cards first place points with a time of 21.21. Caroline Larsen was third (21.70) and Karoline Barrett was eighth (22.98). For the men, Nikita Sheremet went 19.13 to touch second with Charlie Crush putting up the fourth-place time of 19.60 just ahead of Aiden Musso (19.73) and Ethan Chauliaguet (19.77). Volunteer Gui Caribe was the only swimmer sub-18 seconds with an 18.77 on the board for the win.

In the 100 freestyle, UofL had three in the top five finishers led by Caroline Larsen's second place time of 47.38, just ahead of teammate Julia Dennis' 47.68. Freshman Julie Mishler was fifth, turning in a time of 48.57. Camille Spink of the Vols won the event with a 46.54. UT's Gui Caribe made it a sprint sweep by winning the men's 100 free with a 41.61. Guy Brooks was third (42.31) and Nikita Sheremet was sixth, going 43.10.

Xaniya Ignatova was second in the 200 backstroke, with a time of 1:55.91 and Camille Murray was sixth overall with a time of 1:57.35. Vol Sophie Brison won with a 1:55.68. Filip Kosinski completed the backstroke sweep with a win in the 200 back, posting a time of 1:41.41. Jackson Millard was second (1:41.63) and fellow Card Nate Thomas was sixth in 1:46.01.

In the 200 breaststroke, Kim Herkle won the 200 breaststroke, stopping the clock at 2:10.28 just out-touching teammate Mia Cheatwood, who went 2:10.57 for second. Freshman Anna Inagaki was fifth with a time of 2:11.60. UofL's Jake Eccleston won the men's 200 breast, turning in the winning time of 1:54.47. Finnley Conklin was fourth in 1:58.19 and Tommy Bried was sixth with a 1:59.78.

In the 500 free, Daria Golovaty touched second with a time of 4:43.32 followed by Summer Cardwell's 4:47.42, Kaitlyn Sallows' 4:49.09 and Maya Bezanson's 4:49.21 as the Cards finished second, fourth, fifth and sixth. For the men, UofL's Oscar Isberg was second with a 4:23.48 and teammate Gregg Enoch was third, turning in a 4:24.67. Max Hatcher was fifth (4:28.27) and Kayden Lancaster was sixth (4:29.01). Koby Bujak-Upton won the 500 free with a 4:19.31 for the Vols.

Ella Welch won the 100 butterfly, cruising to the victory in 51.54, almost two seconds ahead of the field. Karoline Barrett was sixth for the Cards with a 54.02. For the men, Kamal Muhammad of Tennessee (46.10)  had to hold off Louisville's  Aiden Paro (46.42), Rian Graham (46.75), Aiden Musso (46.88) and Thomas Powers-Hammond (46.90) as the Cardinals went 2-3-4-5 in the 100 fly.

In the 200 IM, Tennessee took the top two spots including Ella Jansen's win in 1:56.25. Summer Cardwell was third (1:57.27) and Kim Herkle was fourth (1:59.82). Gregg Enoch had to battle teammate Jackson Millard for the win in the men's 200 IM. Enoch touched in 1:45.43 and Millard touched .06 later. Aidan Paro was fourth, turning in a time of 1:46.93.

The Cardinal women made it a relay sweep, turning in the fastest time in the 400 free relay with a 3:10.27 that was turned in by Caroline Larsen (47.48), Julia Dennis (46.67), Julie Mishler (47.83) and Ella Welch (48.29).

In diving, Samm Helmboldt was second on the 1M board with a score of 285.55 and Maud VanKampen was second with a 285.00. For the men on the 1-meter board, Cardinal Ray Preas was the top Louisville finisher with the sixth-place score of 324.00. Mack Molloy was seventh with a 323.65. Samm Helmboldt was third on the 3-meter springboard with a score of 311.55. Maud VanKampen was sixth, posting a 300.80.
